Music has always been an important part of life at St Robert Southwell. Class teachers give Music lessons in Reception and Year 1, Years 2 – 6 are taught by our Music specialist, Mrs O'Sullivan. These Music lessons are held in our spacious, new St Cuthman's building where the children have access to a wide range of percussion instruments.
As well as learning the Primary Music Curriculum, the children take part in weekly hymn practices where individual instrumentalists are given the chance to be “Guest Stars”. We also have a choir of over 45 children.
The choir is open to Years 3 – 6 and performs at regular services, at Christmas events, productions, carol services; and at our annual Music concert. Every summer we hold a concert in school to show off the talents of our choir, and our instrumentalists, many of whom are taught by visiting peripatetic teachers. This is followed by a big concert at Holy Trinity Church, Horsham when our choir joins the 30 strong adult choir of Trinity Church Players. It is a always a fabulous occasion and raises money for the school, the church and a charity.
