Nazareth Homework

Set Wednesday 4th March 2020

Due Tuesday 10th March 2020

  1. Attached you will find a Phonics screen check practice list. The children will need to read the word to you. If they get it right, please tick the word. If they get it wrong please write the word they said. They have to read all the words. Nonsense words are identified by an alien, they still need to read these. They will be taking part in a phonics screening check process like this with me later in the year so the more they see words in this format the more normal it will feel. It will not be done in test format. They will sit 1:1 with me to read the words.
  2. Teach your monster to read. If your child has not completed the game and received the champion reader award please ask them to continue using this. It has had a huge impact on their reading so far.

Nazareth Homework 26th February 2020

This week in Maths we have been focusing on the language of measurement and comparing lengths using the vocabulary:

  • Longer
  • Shorter
  • Longest
  • Shortest
  • Taller
  • Smaller

For homework I would either like them to go for a walk (weather permitting!) around the local area or look at items in the home and discuss with you what they notice about the lengths of various objects. The comparison language is what we are looking for.

For example, if they went to the park they could say:

This tree is taller than that tree which is the shortest. I think it is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

To challenge your child further, they could estimate how long they think it is? We will be doing this next week using non-standard units (units of measure that aren’t normally used E.g pencils, cubes, steps).

Any photos of the children completing this would be greatly appreciated. You can send these through seesaw or print if you’d prefer. We will talk about what we found out or saw next week.

Happy measuring!
